Loliem-Polem welcomes new Comunidade bill

The Loliem-Polem Communidade has welcomed the Goa Regularisation of Unauthorised Construction Bill 2025, stating that it will largely benefit several residents by enabling regularisation of houses on Communidade land.

“By this regularisation, no outsiders, but only local residents will benefit in Loliem-Polem village. People should not miss this opportunity, but take full advantage of this bill and get not only the encroached land, but also the illegal houses regularised,” said Loliem-Polem Communidade president Vishwajit Warik.

He was addressing a news conference in the presence of Attorney Bhushan Prabhugaonkar, Treasurer Madhav Prabhu Shastri and others.

“After the government passed the Bill, we convened a meeting of our Communidade, explained the matter and passed a resolution supporting the bill.”

“At the meeting, everyone felt that those who have built houses on Communidade land are our own villagers, and no outsiders have encroached in the communidade land of Loliem-Polem Communidade.”

“Whatever land is being handed over to the encroacher, the applicable compensation will have to be paid to the Communidade. So, most Communidade members were in favour of supporting the Goa Regularisation of Unauthorised Construction Bill 2025.”

According to Varik, there are about 291 houses mostly belonging to locals in Madditolop area in a survey conducted by Mamlatdar in 2002 and all these houses belong to locals.

Communidade Attorney Bhushan Prabhugaonkar said the Bill would benefit people who have no land and had built houses on Communidade land.

“It will bring relief to these people who are always staying in fear of demolition of their houses. It was always not possible to demolish or remove the illegal houses, and we as Communidade in Loliem-Polem also felt that it was not right to demolish these houses. In the process, the Communidade also will get back some of its encroached land,” said Prabhugaonkar.
