LoP seeks health screening for passengers from Russia

PANAJI

Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has urged the State government to immediately introduce precautionary health screening and surveillance for passengers arriving from Russia, following the reported death of a worker at a plague research institute there.

Alemao said the Government could not afford to be complacent, particularly with regular charter flights bringing Russian tourists to Goa.

“I demand that the Government immediately introduce precautionary health screening and surveillance for passengers arriving from Russia, in coordination with Central health authorities,” Alemao said.

He said tourism was vital to Goa’s economy but public health and the safety of Goans must come first.

“Prevention is always better than crisis management,” he said, urging State authorities to remain vigilant and coordinate with Central health agencies.

Alemao said early screening and surveillance would help prevent any potential health threat from escalating and enable a prompt response if required.
