VASCO: Admitting there is a lot of scope for improvement in transport department, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said there large amounts of digitisation and modernisation would take place at all offices of the Assistant Director of Transport (ADT) to offer better services to the people.
Godinho was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the new premises of the Vasco ADT in the presence of Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson Nandadeep Raut, MMC Vice-Chairperson Reema Sonurlekar, Director of Transport Rajan Satardekar, St Andrew's Parish Priest Fr Gabriel Coutinho and other transport officials.
The Citizens Service Centre (CSC), which would function through the ADT-Vasco, will provide services of issuing licences initially, but will later handle registration of vehicles, issuing of permits and other transport related works.
“The CSC was a long pending demand of the people, since the earlier office was in a small congested building with no proper parking facility.”
Godinho told reporters that from the information he had gathered from a review meeting with officers after taking over as transport minister, he felt there is a much more scope for improvement.
“This department will soon grow in leaps and bounds as far as service is concerned and will grow in terms of effectiveness and comforts offered to citizens.”
“I think all services should be shifted to this new premises in the next 15 days. I want to tell this department that I need least complaints from people," said Godinho
"We need to modernise this department to cater to ease of business. All companies should have parking depots and not park their vehicles and trucks all along the highways.”
“We will soon have a transport hubs, including changing rooms and toilets for drivers, where they can park at night, to deter vehicles from being parked everywhere and to prevent drivers from defecating in the open," said Godinho.
Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida requested Godinho to expedite the work of the KTC bus stand, to make the ADT office at Baina fully operational and to arrange more buses along the Baina-Vasco route.
Commenting on the KTC bus service, Godinho said KTC buses have been rendering great public service, but they are running in losses.
“Our endeavour would be to get buses operating on other fuels which are non-polluting and even electric. Once we have these kinds of vehicles, the cost of operation will reduce and we will have better quality transport.”
“We will also give top priority to KTC stands in Vasco, Panaji and Mapusa," added the transport minister.
Sandip Dhargalkar became the first person to receive his licence and Ankur Yadav also become the first person to get his learning licence at the new premises. Both were presented licence documents by the transport minister.
