MARGAO
Loutolim villagers extended a warm and affectionate welcome to the Mollem-Vasco peace yatris as the yatra entered Salcete after crossing the Borim bridge on Friday noon.
People garlanded the participants led by Fr Bolmax Pereira and showered petals before some of them joined the yatris heading towards Cortalim.
Sarpanch Tony Vaz and two panchayat members, Maria Monteiro welcomed the participants soon after they crossed the Borim bridge and entered Salcete in Loutolim.
Addressing the gathering, Fr Bolmax said the peach march from Mollem to Vasco was planned on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti given that the day coincides with international non-violence day. “This peace yatra is intended to connect entire Goa, from the east to west. Mollem is in the news these days because of the three projects proposed by the government. We don’t want our peace to be disturbed by these projects,” he said.
While making a fervent plea to the people of Goa to take out small peace yatras in their respective areas, he said, “Let us all join hands to save our Goa and the people through peace.”He thanked the people of Loutolim for the warm and affectionate welcome extended to the yatris.
