Stating that all religions preach goodness of truth, love and compassion, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said a person should love one’s own religion but should also respect other religions.

He was addressing a function organised by the education department to celebrate Veer Bal Diwas. Others present on the occasion included Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, Union Minister of State for Tourism Shripad Naik, Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Director of Education Shailesh Zingade and state project coordinator Gajanan Dessai.

Sawant said Veer Bal Diwas is being observed to pay honour and tribute to the sacrifices made by Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh. On this day, Mughal forces under Aurangzeb's order killed Sahibzada Zorawar Singh, who was just 9 years old, and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, who was only 6.

“The celebration of Veer Bal Diwas aims to inform and educate the citizens, especially young children, about the story of exemplary courage of the two children of the last Sikh Guru Gobind Singh,” said Sawant.

The chief minister went on to state that all religions preach goodness of truth, love and compassion.

“A person should love one’s religion and should also respect other religions. This event has been organised to generate sense of patriotism among younger generation as they are the future citizens of this country. It is important to show patriotism in our actions and be proud of the country we live in. We all need to stay united and devoted for the betterment of the nation,” said Sawant.

State Project coordinator Gajanan Dessai said everybody, especially students, should study history of the country to understand our past better so that we could learn from the mistakes and figure out our future.

“Youth have played an important role in almost every aspect of the nation's growth, whether it is cultural, social, or economic. Youths should also remember the exemplary courage displayed by Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh and work for the betterment of the nation of the nation,” said Dessai.

Director of Education Shailesh Zingade welcomed the gathering and Director of SCERT Shambu Ghadi later proposed the vote of thanks.
