The twin villages of Divar island, Sao Mathias and Goltim-Navelim saw a low turnout at the special gram sabha convened for the constitution of the Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) on Monday.
At Sao Mathias, the meeting was chaired by Sarpanch Sadanand Shet with a few members from the public present. And although some members present were reluctant to become part of the BMC, in the end, the committee was successfully constituted.
At Goltim-Navelim, Deputy Sarpanch Mario Pinto chaired the meeting, where a seven-member BMC was constituted and discussion was also held on the works to be taken up under MGNREGA.
In both panchayats, those present were also informed of the voters' roll exercise being undertaken to facilitate inclusion or correction of names.
Meanwhile, the Corlim panchayat too held a special meeting to constitute the biodiversity management committee on Monday.
Apart from the BMC, a function was also organized to felicitate students who excelled in the SSC, HSSC and graduation exams. Accordingly, 83 students were felicitated and were given cash, certificates and mementos.
