Luthra brothers finally brought to Goa, to be produced in Mapusa court today

PANAJI: The Luthra brothers, Saurabh and Gaurav, owners of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora, were finally brought to Goa this morning, after being taken into custody by the Goa Police in New Delhi.

They arrived at Manohar International Airport, Mopa, around 10:47 am, under a tight police escort, a day after the Patiala House Court in Delhi granted a two-day transit remand. Security was tightened at the airport and later at Anjuna Police Station ahead of their arrival.

After landing, the accused were taken to the Siolim Primary Health Centre for medical examination. Doctors there referred them to the North Goa District Hospital for further check-up. They will be produced before a Mapusa court later in the day, where police are expected to seek custodial interrogation. Sources said the brothers may also be taken to the scene of the crime as part of the investigation.

The Luthra brothers were formally arrested yesterday at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, shortly after being deported from Bangkok. They were brought to India on a commercial IndiGo flight under CBI escort, with Delhi Police assistance.

The arrests came over a week after the December 6 fire at their nightclub, Birch by Romeo Lane, which claimed 25 lives and sparked widespread outrage over alleged safety lapses and regulatory failures.

Goa Police have booked the brothers along with seven others under stringent provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges related to culpable homicide and negligence.
