Caller posed as forex employee to dupe Bicholim man

A youth from Madhya Pradesh was arrested on charges of duping a man from Bicholim of Rs 4.68 lakh in connection with an investment scam.

According to police reports, Milind Gore (58) of Bicholim had complained to the Bicholim police on August 11 that he had received calls from two different mobile numbers from May 20 to July 16, with the person impersonating himself as an employee of the ‘Kite Forex Trading’ company.

The caller is alleged to have dishonestly induced Gore to make an investment with the Kite Forex Trading company with a promise of high returns and deceived Gore into delivering an amount of Rs 4,68,775 into a Google Pay account on different occasions.

The accused, however, failed to deliver the high returns and also stopped communication with the complainant.

Bicholim police registered a case under Sections 319(1), 318(3), 318(4) BNS and began investigations in the matter.

During the course of the investigation, the detailed bank account statement of the complainant was collected, which showed that the complainant’s money had been transferred to 3–4 different bank accounts via UPI transactions.

The details of the said UPI IDs were secured, and upon verification, it was found that an amount of Rs 1,87,800 had been credited to the account of Shubham Rathore, while the remaining amounts had been transferred to accounts belonging to two or three other individuals.

Bicholim police then obtained the KYC details and the alternate numbers and subsequently, with the help of technical surveillance, ascertained the location of the accused person in Madhya Pradesh.

Accordingly, a police team was formed under the supervision of Bicholim PI Vijay Rane and was dispatched to Madhya Pradesh on November 10.

The police team worked in close coordination with the Pachore Police Station, Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh. On November 14, the Bicholim police team successfully traced and apprehended the accused, Shubham Rathore (25), near the Flyover Junction at Pachore, Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh. He was subsequently placed under arrest at the Pachore Police Station.

Rathore was subsequently produced before the JMFC, Sarangpur, Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh on November 14 and was granted 3 days of transit remand till November 17.

On November 16, the accused was brought to the Bicholim Police Station and was produced before the Bicholim JMFC, who remanded him to 4 days of police custody.

Further investigation of the case is in progress with PSI Jayprakash Jankar of the Bicholim Police Station under the supervision of Bicholim PI Vijay Rane Sardesai and Bicholim SDPO Shridevi B.V., IPS, and under the overall supervision of North SP Rahul Gupta, IPS.
