OLD GOA
Demanding an apology from Cumbarjua MLA Pandurang Madkaikar for his utterances against him and his father, Union Minister and North Goa MP Shripad Naik, BJP Corlim ZP member Siddesh Naik said Madkaikar was making statements out of frustration.
Naik was speaking at a news conference at his Old Goa office on Thursday in the presence of former Corlim sarpanch Shiva Naik and other supporters.
“My father has undertaken development of North Goa in which thousands of projects have been executed through MPLAD funds due to which, various surveys have put North Goa in the forefront as far as developmental works are concerned,” Naik stated, while chiding MLA Madkaikar for his outbursts against his MP father Shripad Naik.
“From community halls to crematoriums, several developmental works have been undertaken. In Cumbarjua itself, around Rs 4 crore projects have been executed in which Madkaikar’s school also benefited,” said Naik and advised the MLA not to make unfounded statements out of frustration.
“The MLA thinks that I am his opponent due to which he makes statements out of frustration. But before making such statements he should know whom he is speaking against,” he informed.
On the statement that he should first advise his father who has been contesting for several terms, Naik said that the BJP has taught them to take advice from elders and not the other way round.
Naik further questioned the MLA over lack of development in Cumbarjua constituency in the last four years.
On the allegation that he wants to increase his bargaining within the party, Naik said he has been working for BJP since 2003 and has been given lots of responsibilities.
...Says staking claim to BJP ticket based on capabilities
OLD GOA: Stating that he is in the race for the BJP ticket in Cumbarjua constituency, Corlim ZP member Siddesh Naik however said he was not staking claim just because he is the son of an MP. “I am staking claim based on my own capabilities, in which I along with my supporters have worked hard for the growth of BJP in Cumbarjua. I am not staking claim because I am a son of an MP,” Naik informed.
“BJP has its own procedure of finalising tickets. I am working for several years for the growth of the party and I have faith that the party will take it into consideration,” he added.
When questioned if he would support MLA Pandurang Madkaikar if the party gave him the ticket, Naik remained non-committal but said that he would abide by the party’s decision.
Meanwhile, Naik’s supporter Nilesh Shirodkar said they would propose the name of Siddesh Naik for the Cumbarjua ticket as the current MLA was not fit.
