Maharashtra has pitched itself as India’s filmmaking capital and an emerging global production hub at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. The Maharashtra Film, Stage & Cultural Development Corporation (MFSCDCL) said the state’s offering rests on three pillars: a fast single-window clearance system, generous incentives for Marathi cinema, and expanding world-class infrastructure.
The state’s online portal, filmcell.maharashtra.gov.in, integrates 14 departments and 105 sub-departments and promises all shooting permissions within seven working days; approvals are deemed granted automatically if delays occur. Incentives include grants of up to Rs 40 lakh for top-scoring Marathi films (doubled for National Award winners), 100% entertainment tax exemption, concessional rates at state locations including Film City, and a special Rs 5 lakh grant for women directors of ‘A’ category or award-winning films.
MFSCDCL highlighted the 521-acre Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari in Mumbai and a new AVGC centre within Film City, along with certified skill-development programmes through tie-ups with FTII and other institutes. Swati Mhase Patil, managing director of MFSCDCL, said IFFI provided a platform to showcase the state’s evolving film ecosystem and invited producers and creatives to explore opportunities.
