Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress workers led by Chairperson Pratima Coutinho on Friday evening confronted the assistant engineer of electricity department office at Mapusa and demanded a joint meeting with section heads to resolve the problem of erratic power supply and hike in electricity bills.
Coutinho along with Mapusa Block Mahila President Mithali Gadekar, Thivim Block Mahila President Diana Braganza, Pooja Mayekar, Priya Rathod and other party workers first went to the office of Executive Engineer Pradip Narvekar. As he was not in office, the women activists confronted Assistant Engineer Dennis Rodrigues and other engineer Subhas Parsekar and Ramdas Salelkar.
Later speaking to reporters, Coutinho said: “Electricity bills are given to customers once in three months and it is very difficult for poor customer to pay the entire amount at one time. We have demanded that bills should be issued every month.”
Coutinho also stated that streetlights were not working, while the erratic power supply had cause hardships to students.
Salelkar explained to the delegation that bills are issued within 45 days and not after that. He also expressed his willingness to inspect the streetlights in the city.
