MARGAO
The kitchen of the Lar Orphanage at Pajifond-Margao, run by the Carmelite monastery, was gutted in a major fire on Sunday noon.
The fire is believed to have occurred at around 1.30 pm on Sunday and the whole structure housing the kitchen was engulfed by the inferno. The inmates of the orphanage also joined in the fire fighting operation with the Margao fire brigade which rushed to the site.
Director of the Orphanage and Superior, Carmelite Monastery Fr Archie Gonsalves told the media that the entire structure housing the kitchen of the orphanage was gutted in the fire.
“The loss arising out of the destruction of property could be huge. The kitchen and other materials have been gutted, the timber stocked inside the premise have been turned into ash,” he said.
Fr Archie said that timely intervention by the fire brigade helped stop the fire from spreading to the adjoining dormitory.
He thanked the fire personnel for their help and assistance to extinguish the fire.
