Major water pipeline damaged at Ponda, traffic disrupted

PONDA

A 200mm water pipeline was damaged near the Kendriya Vidyalaya in Curti-Ponda on Thursday evening, disrupting water supply in the area.

According to sources, the incident took place at about 3.30 pm when a JCB damaged the pipeline during work to lay a gas pipeline in the area.

The pipeline supplies water from the Opa water treatment plant to Farmagudi.

Huge amounts of water began gushing from the damaged pipeline for about 30 minutes, with water flowing on the road and disrupting traffic in the area.

On receiving news, a PWD official stopped water supply from Opa, restoring traffic movement, while a team rushed to the site to begin repair work.

Water supply to the areas to which the pipeline supplies water is likely to be affected.

The occurrence of water pipeline ruptures has been a frequent phenomenon, with a recent incident at Velus bridge in Sattari causing disruptions to water supply across multiple areas of the taluka.
