BELAGAVI:
A 60-year-old man was seriously injured in a bear attack near the Kanakumbi checkpost near Goa border on Belagavi-Goa Road via Chorla on Wednesday morning.
According to authorities the victim, identified as Dashrath Varandikar, had taken his cattle into the forest for grazing when the incident occurred. The sudden attack left him with severe injuries to his face.
Local residents quickly rushed him to the Belagavi District Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. His condition is reported to be critical but stable.
Following the incident, officials from the Khanapur Forest Department and the local police visited the site and conducted an inspection.
They have advised residents and cattle herders in the area to remain cautious and avoid venturing deep into the forest until further notice.
This incident has evoked yet another debate and a reminder of increasing human-wildlife conflict in the forest regions surrounding Khanapur and Goa border.
