A 32-year-old man from Khajne in Pernem has been booked for alleged abetment of suicide after a complaint accused him of mentally harassing a neighbour’s wife by repeatedly contacting her and making allegations about her husband’s alleged extramarital affairs.
According to the complaint, the accused, Vivek Salgaonkar, allegedly sent messages and made phone calls to the 42-year-old woman between April and August 18, claiming that her husband was involved with multiple women.
The complainant, her 43-year-old husband, alleged that the accused deliberately instigated her against him by providing false information.
The alleged repeated harassment and dissemination of false information created serious matrimonial differences between the couple, the complaint stated.
The woman subsequently died by suicide by jumping into the Chapora river at Colvale, according to the police complaint.
Pernem police registered an offence against Salgaonkar under Section 108 of the BNS, 2023.
