A 48-year-old man was arrested after police allegedly found him in possession of over one kilogram of suspected ganja during a narcotics raid in Colvale. According to police, the raid was conducted recently behind the Dattatray Temple in the Housing Board area following specific and reliable information about narcotics activity.
During the raid, the accused, identified as Sunil Tiwari (48), a native of Uttar Pradesh and currently residing at Wadeshwar Nagar, Cuchelim, was allegedly found in possession of a dried greenish leafy substance with flowering and fruiting tops suspected to be ganja.
Police said the seized substance weighed 1.380 kilograms and is estimated to be worth around Rs 1.38 lakh in the illegal market. The contraband was seized under a panchanama along with other articles. A case has been registered under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The accused was formally placed under arrest.
Further investigation in the case is being carried out by PSI Dattaraj Rane.
