Former minister Ramesh Tawadkar has suspected that the IT raids at his house on Wednesday were "pressure tactics" to dissuade him from contesting the Lok Sabha polls and hinted that similar tactics may also be used on other politicians.
Commenting on the IT raids at his house on Wednesday, Tawadkar said since he had been issued an IT notice, he had twice visited the IT office in the past and had even clarified all queries raised by the officials.
"After all this, there was absolutely no need for IT sleuths to have come to my residence and that too, without any intimation. Does this not amount to harassment," asked
Tawadkar.
"I strongly suspect that the IT raids at my house have been only to forewarn me not to contest the Lok Sabha polls. I also suspect similar raids could be planned on other opposition MLAs in view of upcoming Lok Sabha Polls," Tawadkar told The Goan.
"Incidentally, other cases which were raked up just before the last assembly elections to dissuade me from contesting the assembly polls have now been withdrawn and closed. These cases include the BBSM case, which was recently withdrawn, the UTAA case at Balli and the forest case at Cotigao," he said.
Incidentally, Tawadkar on Saturday convened a preparatory meeting to hold the Lukosthav-2017 at Shristhal VP Hall, where an organizing committee was formed under his chairmanship to organize two-day event at Adarsh Gram in Amone in December.
