Porvorim police on Saturday arrested a man in Mumbai in connection with an extortion case.
Nitin Eknath Kolhapure of Porvorim had lodged a complaint at the Porvorim police station on October 2 stating that from October 2023 till date, an unknown accused person using different mobile numbers allegedly threatened the complainant with dire consequences and extorted total amount of Rs 6.01 lakh on different occasions.
Porvorim police registered an offence under Sections 308 (5) of BNS 2023 and investigation was taken up by PSI Sachin Shirodkar.
A team headed by PSI Shirodkar, formed to trace the accused under the supervision of PI Rahul Parab, DySP Vishwesh Karpe and SP North Akshat Kaushal, proceeded to Mumbai-Maharashtra on October 14.
During the course of further investigation, it was revealed that the accused had been residing at Meghwadi slum area in Mumbai. A Goa police team visited Mumbai and with the assistance of staff of MIDC Police Station, Mumbai, the accused was apprehended.
The teams conducted a search operation and manage to apprehend the accused, Ganesh Sawant. He was placed under arrest on Saturday and was later remanded to police custody for five days.
