When a Chaudi-based pharmacist was proceeding towards his farm at Guraval-Agonda, little did he realise that he would be saving a deer from a most certain death as it was being mauled by stray dogs late Wednesday evening.
The wounded deer was later handed over to the forest department and is presently under medical treatment at Bondla Zoo.
The incident took place as Dinesh Pai, who owns a pharmacist at Chaudi, was on way to his farm at Guraval-Agonda. As he was crossing the Dumane forested area, he spotted some stray dogs attacking the spotted deer.
When Pai saw the helpless animal struggling to escape from the rampaging dogs, he lost no time and chased the dogs away with a stick and stones.
The dogs fled from the site, but not before inflicting several wounds on the deer, which was in agony and bleeding from both ears, besides being unable to move.
Pai lifted the wounded deer and took it to his farm, while also alerting forest officials to seek medical assistance for the injured animal.
A forest (wildlife) team later took the injured deer to the Hathipal Animal Rescue Centre at Cotigao and after administering first aid, shifted the animal to Bondla Zoo for further treatment and recuperation.
