Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee on Sunday warned that environmental destruction is happening everywhere due to pollution, climate change and the overuse of natural resources, and said people must act now to protect the planet.
He was speaking after inaugurating the seventh edition of NOMOZO at Porvorim in the presence of Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, Goa Tourism Development Corporation chairman Kedar Naik and panch members of Penha de Franca and Succoro.
Bajpayee said events like NOMOZO play an important role in reducing pollution and spreading awareness among people. He said the festival should become a main event in Goa and later grow into a national and global movement. “What is vocal today should become global tomorrow,” he said, while complimenting the Tourism Department for organising the event.
The actor also urged Goans to preserve their culture and pass on its value to children. He said protecting Indian art and culture helps future generations stay connected with their roots and builds a sense of belonging.
GTDC chairman Kedar Naik said Porvorim has become an ideal constituency and is developing faster than many other parts of Goa under the leadership of Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte.
Khaunte said work on the Porvorim Town Square project is progressing well and the next edition of NOMOZO will be held at the new venue. He said NOMOZO, which stands for No Motor Zone and No Mobile Zone, has received a good response from all sections of society. The event also gives a platform to youth and artisans to showcase their talent. He added that Manoj Bajpayee would soon become a resident of Penha de Franca.
The festival featured 13 themed zones and over 100 stalls offering local food, handmade items and eco-friendly products, along with dance and sports performances.
