Drishti Marine has relaunched its guided sea swimming programme ‘Sagar Safar’ across six beaches in Goa to improve water safety awareness and reduce drowning incidents.

The daily sessions are held at 11 am and 4 pm at Baga, Calangute, Sinquerim and Candolim in North Goa, and Benaulim and Colva in South Goa. The hour-long programme allows participants to swim with trained lifesavers and learn about sea conditions, beach flags and safety protocols.

Visitors can enrol directly with lifesavers on the beach. Announcements about the sessions are made in multiple languages through the Aurus AI-bot. QR codes displayed at lifeguard towers and Drishti Marine vehicles link to the Sagar Safar website for further information.

The initiative was first introduced in 2021 as ‘Swim With Lifesavers’ and has now been brought back in an expanded format.

Drishti Marine chief executive officer Navin Awasthi said the programme helps participants understand safe swimming techniques, flag systems and how to identify rip currents so that people enter the water with awareness.

Each session includes a safety briefing, a guided swim using buoyancy aids and life jackets, followed by a short debrief on sea behaviour.

The guided swims will be conducted throughout the year, except during the monsoon season when swimming is not permitted due to rough sea conditions.
