Mapusa man loses Rs 2.75 lakh in cyber fraud

MAPUSA:  A 52-year-old man from Mapusa was allegedly cheated of Rs 2.75 lakh by an unidentified cyber fraudster who used threats and deception to make him authorise online financial transactions. According to police, Urvesh Ramkrishna Natekar of Vithalwadi, Ansabhat, Mapusa, lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police Station stating that the incident took place on April 8, 2026. Police said an unknown person contacted Natekar over the phone, threatened him and used deceptive tactics to pressure him into approving online transactions. As a result, Rs 2.75 lakh was allegedly withdrawn from his bank account without his authorisation, causing him a financial loss. Based on the complaint, the Cyber Crime Police Station registered an FIR under Section 308(7) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The case was later transferred to Mapusa Police Station.
