With a focus on borders, the Mapusa Municipal Council's (MMC) Road Safety and Traffic Management Committee has appealed to all councilors, particularly those who are bordering the panchayat areas, to submit suggestions/problems on roads in their areas.
The road safety committee will then study the suggestions/problems and accordingly liaison with the department concerned to rectify the problem.
"The councillor may require some street light or potholes to be filled up or a barricade to be setup...We will have to look at what is his need. And The Road Safety and Traffic Management Committee is an agency which will liaison," said Roland Martins, Coordinator of the GOACAN.
He said in all 14 municipalities and even in CCP these committees have been established and a representative of consumer forum attended these meetings.
"We will look into all the past correspondence. Since we are moving in this decade of road safety we want to fast track all proposals that have been pending. We cannot crib and cry about what was not done. Now, we have to see what is the road ahead," he said.
MMC, Chief Officer, Clen Madeira, Chairperson, Rohan Kavlekar, Vice Chairperson, Marlene D'Souza and representatives of Assistant Director of Transport, Mapusa Traffic Police, Roland Martins of GOACAN and others were present.
The MMC's road safety committee under the chairmanship of Ratnapal Salkar brought on record all the proposals that have come from the Supreme Court committee on road safety. "The government is setting up a lead agency and a road safety fund. Road engineering cell has already been set up. We have to prepare ourselves to work for the new developments," the GOCAN convenor said.
