MAPUSA
The Sewerage and Infrastructural Development Corporation of Goa Limited (SIDCGL) has begun work to dig roads as part of the sewage project in Mapusa.
In the first phase, pipelines are being laid and the work will continue for the next 6-8 months. Providing sewage connectivity to the houses will be taken up in the second phase.
Earlier this year, the Mapusa Municipal Corporation (MMC) had recently given permission to dig the roads for the pipelines as part of the sewage project.
The MMC had granted the NOC to SIDCGL on condition that the roads dug for the purpose would be immediately repaired.
The work will be taken up initially at Kamarkhajan, Gausasawada, Angod, Morod and market area. Accordingly, the SIDCGL has begun work in Ward 20 on the road behind the church. After work in four wards is completed, other wards will be considered.
SIDCGL officers informed reporters that the road work has begun only after receiving the NOC from the MMC and informed that the phase one would take about 6-8 months, before work on the second phase of the sewage project.
The State government had laid the foundation of the sewage project worth Rs 89 crore in February 2013 to cover all 15 wards in Mapusa town. The sewage treatment plant has been constructed at Kamarkhajan.
The project was to have been completed in three years, but it has remained incomplete for the past nine years and machinery installed at the treatment project has not been used since then.
