The Additional District and Sessions court on Thursday rejected a Mapusa ‘doctor’s’ anticipatory bail plea, paving the way for the police to arrest him.
The court rejected the anticipatory bail application of Hanumantray Biradar, who has been allegedly practicing illegally as a medical doctor in Mapusa.
“After the Medical Council of India had rejected his registration certificate, Biradar produced several degree certificates in the court claiming that he had obtained his MBBS degree from Anamalai University,” said Anuradha Talaulikar, Public Prosecutor.
“When we wrote to Anamalai University, they wrote back to us that they had never issued those certificates to Biradar,” Talaulikar added.
After almost three months, the Additional District and Sessions Judge Vijaya Pol finally rejected Biradar’s anticipatory bail on Thursday.
After Mapusa Police booked him for fabricating the Medical Council of India (MCI) registration certificate on March 12, Biradar, fearing arrest, moved for anticipatory bail.
For three months, the decision on the anticipatory bail remained inconclusive as Biradar went on producing one degree after the other in the court. Mapusa Police said they were trying their best to locate Biradar but he has managed to hoodwink them.
“We are trying our best to arrest him but so far he is not traceable,” said PSI Kiran Naik, who is investigating the matter.
Biradar, who has been practicing medicine allegedly with a fabricated MCI registration certificate, has been evading the cops since his consultancy was raided by Mapusa police on March 12.
It may be recalled that acting on a complaint of the Goa Medical Council Registrar Govind Nasnodkar, Mapusa Police had raided Biradar’s consultancy opposite the Jama Masjid in Angod, Mapusa.
A case was consequently registered against Biradar under Sections 465, 468 and 471 for forgery and 420 for cheating of the IPC and Section 27 under the Goa Medical Council Act 2005.
Biradar had been running a flourishing practice in Mapusa and in the past, similar raids had come to naught due to his political connections.
It may be recalled that former president of Goa Medical Council Dr Shekar Salkar had also lodged a complaint against Biradar at the Mapusa Police Station in January.
