Steel rods posing danger to motorists continues to be the order of the day on the Margao flyover, connecting the city to Navelim with the NH-17 officials yet to make its presence felt and take up the repair work on the bridge.

When The Goan had contacted the NH-17 officials over a month ago to shed light on the delay in carrying out repairs to the flyover, an official had maintained that the repair work would be undertaken only after a consultant appointed by the government submits a comprehensive report on the state of the bridges on the National Highway. As a stop gap arrangement, the highway officials had carried out temporary patch work, which has failed to serve the purpose. A drive down the flyover revealed that most of the potholes are not only back to their original condition, but poses a danger to the motorists, especially the two-wheeler riders. "The NH-17 officials should at least bend the steel rods protruding from the damaged stretches of the flyover, posing danger to the tyres and the rides," remarked a motorist. Though the PWD, NH-17 had prepared an estimate of Rs 35 lakh to carry out comprehensive repairs of the flyover, the same is awaiting sanction from the govt till date.
