MARGAO
As part of Swachhta Utsav starting on Wednesday, the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) launched a new programme under the “Cleanliness Target Unit (CTU)” to clear five black spots in the city.
The initiative, taken up to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, saw PWD Minister Digambar Kamat join several cleanliness drives across Margao.
The programme was launched by MMC Chairperson Damu Shirodkar in the presence of senior civic officials and councillors. It aims not only to remove black spots but also to improve and maintain them over time. The MMC will be responsible for clearing the identified spots, with the work monitored at both state and central levels.
Explaining the plan, Municipal Engineer Deepak Desai said that the process will be monitored online, with progress uploaded for review at state and national levels.
Civic Chief Damu Shirodkar said the MMC will also organise other drives, including cleaning water bodies, health check-ups and camps for workers, poster-making, spreading awareness on waste segregation, and imposing fines on single-use plastic.
