Former Member of the State Cultural Development Committee, Vishal Pai Cacode, has criticised Ravindra Bhavan Margao for allegedly ignoring the birth centenary of Goa’s legendary music maestro, Anthony Gonsalves.

Stating that the centenary year begins on Friday, Pai Cacode said the institution has once again failed to honour one of Goa’s most distinguished sons.

He said Gonsalves was among Goa’s greatest musical legends and contributed to more than 1,000 songs, leaving a lasting impact on Indian music and inspiring generations of musicians.

Despite such recognition, Ravindra Bhavan Margao has not marked the beginning of his centenary year, he said.

Pai Cacode further criticised the institution for organising centenary programmes for Mario Miranda, Laxman Pai and K. Vaikunth only after their centenary years had ended. According to him, this reflects poor planning and disregard for Goa’s cultural heritage.

He urged the Government to ensure timely celebrations of Goa’s cultural icons and give greater priority to Goan talent. “The neglect of Goa’s legends and the sidelining of Goan artists must stop,” he said.
