PANAJI
With the proposal for setting up a marina at Nauxim back in focus with the recent ruling of the MoEF&CC that it needs no EC under the EIA law and opposition to the project soaring by the day, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant brushed aside a query on the government’s stand on the issue.
“People have the habit of opposing anything and everything,” Sawant said and declined to say anything substantive on the controversial project which his own government had told the Bombay High Court it was shelving.
Nauxim is a village on the Northern bank of the Zuari river about seven to eight kilometres from Panaji and is predominantly inhabited by Scheduled Tribe population engaged in traditional fishing for a livelihood. The project is being opposed by them.
