PANAJI: Mhadei Bachao Abhiyan (MBA) is still undecided on their plan of action over State Government's decision to agree in-principle not to oppose Karnataka's demand for reasonable and justified quantum of water to be utilised for drinking, even as MBA has clearly stated that they are opposed to State Government's decision to hold bilateral talks with Karnataka over sharing drinking water.
Nonetheless, MBA has strongly stated that it has no plans to hold any agitation or morchas over the issue.
MBA leaders held a meeting on Friday evening to discuss their plan of action over latest developments vis a vis River Mhadei compromise. Present at the meeting were Nirmala Sawant, Rajendra Kerkar, Dr Nandkumar Kamat and Prakash Parienkar.
Questioned on MBA's plan of action, Nirmala Sawant said, "Are all questions solved by holding agitations? The judgment of August 17 has clearly stated that no construction is going on and no construction will be done. So where is the question of water when there are no canals?"
"At present we will take up issues like water shortage plaguing the State. But, we have decided a detailed plan of action and we are really serious about the issue. After January 6, everything will be announced," she said reiterating that MBA is strongly opposed to Parrikar's decision to hold bilateral talks with Karnataka on sharing Mhadei River water for the purpose of drinking.
MBA plans to create awareness on Mhadei by holding ‘Jal Yatra' and ‘Tahanlela (thirsty) Goa'. Additionally, MBA also plans to take up the issue at national level by various means.
Meanwhile, activists under the banner of ‘Mahadayi Aaamchi Aavay' will hold a protest at Gandhi Chowk, Mapusa demanding withdrawal of letter sent by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to Karnataka BJP President BS Yeddyurappa. They have alleged that the State Government is using Mhadei issue for its political gains.
