Quepem DySP and SDPO Sammy Tavares has also told The Goan that the charge sheet is yet to be filed in the case, since a forensic report is still awaited from Hyderabad.
“We do not take it in our stride to respond to every claim that the accused is making against police investigations in the murder of Mclaughlin.
The accused has been planting stories right from the beginning to mislead police investigations,” said DySP Tawares, when asked to comment on recent allegations levelled by Bhagat in a letter reportedly written to a family member.
Reacting to claims that Bhagat had insisted on his innocence and had claimed that others were involved in the crime, DySP Tavares said, “it is but natural for an accused to build stories in order to defend himself. Is there a need to respond to his stories? We understand the accused has been cooking such stories right from the beginning.”
To another query on whether the charge sheet had been completed and filed in the court, Tavares replied: “The charge-sheet is still being worked on and is not ready as yet, since the forensic report sought from the Hyderabad lab for advanced analysis is yet to reach the police.”
“We have 90 days (to file the charge sheet) and I still maintain that the charge-sheet will be filed within these 90 days only.”
