It was a small step in
technology but a giant leap for Mollem in Dharbandora taluka, as four farmers opted for mechanised farming by using a rice transplanter in their fields for the first time.
Such was the interest that about 20 other farmers were present to witness mechanised farming in operation.
Dharbandora Zonal Agriculture Officer (ZAO) Nagesh Komarpanth told The Goan that mechanised farming had been introduced in Mollem for the first time and more farmers were interested in using the technology.
“Today, four farmers have opted for mechanised farming and 20 others had come to witness these operations. I am confident that they too will opt for mechanised farming in the near future and boost cultivation in the area,” said Komarpanth.
Komarpanth said farmers are being given all helps and schemes to bring more land under cultivation.
The farmers witnessed the use of a rice transplanter, which transplanted rice seedlings into the paddy field.
Agriculture Officer Krishnanath Gauns, Pranita Desai, Saish Desai, Madhu Usapkar, Anil Gaonkar and others were present on the occasion.
Villagers said the Dharbandora (ZAO) had provided them details of the mechanised farming and those concerned in the activity. “This will boost agricultural activities in our area as it was difficult to get labourers to work in the field. These machines have made it easy,” said a villager.
