Meet discusses way forward on comunidade bldg

The Administrator of Comunidades and the  components on Wednesday have underlined the need to protect the imposing  South Goa Comunidade building, which has been in a state of decay for  want of upkeep and maintenance.

The administrator has now decided to obtain a structural  stability test report from the Goa College of Engineering before taking a  call on the repairs of the building.

The Administrator of Comunidades South Paresh Faldesai  and representatives of around 20-odd comunidades met in the building on Wednesday with the sole objective of finding a way out to  protect and preserve the 50-year old imposing building in the heart of  the commercial capital. It was finally decided that the administrator will get the structural stability test done by the Goa  College of Engineering through the PWD.

Component Savio Correia told The Goan after the meeting  that a five-member committee has been constituted to look after the  micro issues affecting the building repairs, adding that the general  body of the components will be called only to discuss and approve major  repairs to the building. “Let the Goa College of Engineering conduct the  structural stability test and we will take a call on how to go about  carrying out the repairs,” Correia told The Goan.

He pointed out that the comunidade components questioned  the administrator on the extent of funding the administrator’s office is  willing to make to repair the building. “We reminded the administrator  that his office should recover the huge rent from the offices operating  from the Comunidade building. The administrator in turn replied that he  has already initiated moves to recover the rent and evict the  defaulters,” he said.

The issue over the shifting of the Comunidade  Administrator’s office and the vital records was also discussed at the  meeting. The components suggested to the administrator to forward a  proposal to the government to get the office shifted to the District  Collectorate with the fast approaching monsoons and pending repairs and  renovation of the building.

When the Administrator pointed out that the  proposal to shift the office to the Collectorate is already pending with  the government, the components suggested that the administrator put in  place an action plan before the onset of rains.
