Stating that some dengue cases have been reported in the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) limits, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida said all the physicians and medical practitioners in Vasco have been asked to report any suspected cases of dengue patients visiting the clinics.
A special meeting was convened in the chairperson's cabin at MMC. MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik, Chief Officer Deepali Naik, doctors of major hospitals, health officer Rashmi Khandeparkar and Mamlatdar Satish Prabhu attended the meeting.
"As some dengue cases have been reported in the municipal limits recently, I had requested the MMC chairperson to convene a special meeting on Thursday. I requested the health officer and doctors of major hospitals to attend the meeting to take steps to prevent dengue," Almeida told the media.
Almeida said three major points were finalised at the meeting. "It was finalised to reduce communication gap between doctors of major hospitals and the health officer. The doctors of major hospitals were directed to provide every day report of the patients visiting the hospitals for check ups to the health officer, which were earlier on a monthly basis."
"All the physicians and medical practitioners in Vasco have been told to report any suspected cases of dengue patients arriving at the clinics and the third major issue addressed was non-availability of dengue checking kits at Chicalim Cottage Hospital."
"The Chicalim Cottage Hospital does not have dengue checking kits and samples are sent to Pune. I have requested the health officer of Goa Shipyard Ltd to supply the kits free of cost to the poor patients of Chicalim as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)."
"This will pass on the benefits to poor patients in Goa who have to go to private labs and spend a lot of money," added Almeida.
He appreciated the role of the Mormugao Municipal Council in maintaining cleanliness, garbage collection and cleaning of gutters as preventive measures for dengue.
Ward-wise inspection will be done and dates will be informed: MMC chairperson
VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Deepak Naik said the council will conduct inspection of all the 25 wards and attempt would be made to wipe out dengue cases completely in Vasco.
"In the last 2 years, there was a big issue of dengue cases in Vasco and this year we have very few cases. The MLA said though few cases are reported, we must attempt to wipe out dengue completely," said Naik.
"The council will have a team and conduct inspection of all the 25 wards. We have already set the dates and we will soon inform the dates to the public. We want to make public the dates of inspection so that we can get support from prominent citizens of the ward in achieving our motto," said Naik.
Ward 15 is planned to be taken up first and the inspection will be conducted in the presence of the Vasco MLA, chief officer, health officer, municipal engineer and sanitary inspector.
The ward will be checked, inspected and danger spots will be identified and MMC also plans to start a massive cleanliness drive soon.
"Fogging was an issue earlier as there were no medicine for fogging and the health office also faced shortage of medicine used for fogging. However, now we have got sufficient stock of fogging medicines from Mapusa and we will be fogging all wards regularly," added Naik.
