This can be followed by dizziness, drowsiness, altered consciousness, and neurological signs indicating acute encephalitis. Some can experience acute respiratory distress, WHO says on its website.
Encephalitis and seizures occur in severe cases, which can progress to coma within 24 to 48 hours, the WHO website adds.
