The Colva Gram sabha discussed a host of issues, ranging from stray dog menace to illegal sale of vegetables on road sides at the meeting held on Sunday.

The meeting chaired by Sarpanch Tereza Silva on Sunday saw members underscoring the need to tackle the stray dog menace plaguing the tourist village, including strays on the beach belt.

A gram sabha member pointed out that the Sernabatim area of the village, a prominent beach belt, plays host to over 25 dogs. While pointing out that NGOs are involved in feeding the strays, the members demanded notifying dedicated feeding zones to reduce the threat to human beings by the strays.

Sarpanch Tereza told the media after the meeting that the Panchayat would take up sterilization of stray dogs after identifying a plot of land to carry out the activities.

The issue of illegal road side vegetable vendors also figured at the grams sabha meeting. Members pointed out that vegetable vendors are selling vegetables right along the road sides causing vehicular congestion.

They demanded action against the illegal vendors as per the rules in force.

Sarpanch Silva announced that the Panchayat would serve notices on all the vegetable vendors doing business along the road side.

The issue of farmers demanded access to their paddy fields also came up for discussion. A couple of members pointed out that farmers should have easy motorable access to their fields in this age of mechanized farming.
