Even as villagers gathered in large numbers for the inspection of a residential-cum-commercial project at Dom Joao-Merces citing irregularities on Thursday, the TCP authorities could not find any substantial evidence on the claims.

The inspection was necessitated after some locals had complained to the TCP alleging that the builder has deviated from the approved plans.

As the TCP team led by deputy town planner Volvoikar arrived at the site, they had to face a barrage of questions from the locals who, instead of focusing on the issue, tried to highlight the burden these types of projects would add on the already depleting infrastructure in the village, particularly the narrow roads and problems of water, power and garbage.

“We don’t want more projects in the village until and unless the much needed infrastructure is first put in place,” said a villager.

However, the TCP officials told the villagers to direct their grievances to the panchayat authorities and went ahead with their job of ascertaining whether the setbacks have been maintained according to the plan or not.

Though Volvoikar refused to speak to the media, sources inside the TCP informed that the project is built as per plan, which was also acknowledged by one of the villagers.

The TCP source also informed that the report on the inspection would be prepared within 15 days.
