Goencho Avaaz State Convenor Captain Viriato Fernandes on Friday met AICC election observer P Chidambaram and conveyed to him that Congress and MGP should come together to achieve a common goal to defeat the BJP at the upcoming assembly elections.
"I suggested to Chidambaram that there is a need for two principal opposition parties, MGP which ruled the State for 17 years and Congress which ruled the State for 25 years, to come together,” said Capt Fernandes, while speaking to media persons after his meeting with Chidambaram.
Capt Fernandes said he had expressed his willingness to mediate to forge an alliance between the Congress and MGP. He appealed to both parties to come together by keeping aside their political and ideological differences to defeat a bigger enemy which, he said, is destroying Goa.
He hoped that both parties would favourably consider his views.
“Both the MGP and Congress should be strong for the betterment of Goa.”
Capt Fernandes said he had apprised Chidambaram on issues which the Goencho Avaaz had been highlighting and fighting for, since the last many years.
