Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) President Deepak Dhavalikar on Sunday said the party was gearing up to contest the ensuing civic elections.
He also ruled out a pre-poll alliance with the BJP for the 2022 Goa Legislative Assembly elections but appeared open to tie-up with like-minded opposition parties.
“The task to select candidates for the forthcoming municipal elections has been entrusted to the local units of the MGP. The MGP will field its panel in all the municipalities wherever the elections are held,” said Deepak Dhavalikar.
The MGP President was addressing the media after holding a meeting of the party workers from the Mapusa constituency at the Hanumant Natyagraha in Mapusa.
Speaking further, Dhavalikar said the BJP was trying to create confusion that they will conduct municipality elections on party lines. “MGP is ready to contest the civic elections even if it is held on party lines,” he said.
He said the party will never tie-up with the BJP for the upcoming Assembly elections but will decide to hold alliance with other like-minded parties at appropriate time.
He also said that the party was getting set to fight the 2022 Assembly polls with all its might.
“Come what may, we will not hold a pre-poll alliance with the BJP in 2022 assembly polls,” he said.
MGP leaders Vinod Phadke, Vaman Pandit, Ramesh Manerkar, Shripad Yende, Premanand Divkar, Eknath Mhapsekar and others were present for the meeting.
‘Disgruntled leaders trying to divide MGP’
MAPUSA: MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar said that some leaders opposed to the MGP with the help of a national party were trying to draw a wedge within the party.
“There are no differences within the party. But some disgruntled people along with a national party are trying to eliminate our party. They have put unnecessary cases on us. We will give them a befitting reply,” Dhavalikar said.
It may be recalled 27 delegates of MGP had moved a no-confidence against MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar last month alleging that he was illegally occupying the chair without holding internal party elections.
Speaking further, the MGP president said that the 27 delegates who moved the no-confidence against him were not members of the party.
