While the unrest over the failure of Karnataka Government in convincing the Mhadei Water Disputes Tribunal is growing in north Karnataka region, various organizations are now pressurizing the Karnataka Government to replace Fali S Nariman, the state's counsel representing the Kalsa-Bhandura water diversion case with the Tribunal.
Agitated over the failure of the government in the Kalsa-Bhandura issue, the farmers organizations are also seeking resignation of Water Resources Minister MB Patil, who is also being held responsible for the failure in Cauvery and Mhadei issues.
A group of farmers under the banner of Bharatiya Krishak Samaj staged a protest in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday and demanded the resignation of Water Resources Minister MB Patil for failing to protect the interests of the state on all water-related inter-state disputes, specifically the Mhadei and Cauvery waters.
Samaj’s district president Lingaraj Patil also demanded the government to replace Fali S Nariman, whose legal expertise they said had not been useful to the people of Karnataka.
“We are unhappy over total failure of our government in convincing the Tribunal over the drinking water and irrigation needs of the north Karnataka region. The legal team presenting Karnataka over both the issues have not taken up the seriousness, due to which the Tribunal issued a verdict favouring Goa,” Patil said adding that the agitation would be intensified in the interest of the farmers.
Various other organizations too are expected to join Bharatiya Krishak Samaj demanding the removal of Fali S Nariman and the legal team that according to Patil had dashed hopes of people of Karnataka in handling the Cauvery and Mhadei issues against the well prepared teams of Goa and Tamil Nadu.
