The speculated and much debated potential entry of Ports Minister Michael Lobo has ruffled feathers of several Congressmen in Calangute and the situation reached such a pass that it forced senior election observer and former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram to hold a meeting with the Block Committee and other party leaders on his arrival in the State on Friday.
Chidambaram, according to sources, met with Congressmen in Calangute and assured them that no such decision has been taken.
The Congress' Calangute block had on Friday also appealed via a social media post urging the public not to fall prey to rumours and fake news even as it accused Lobo and his wife Delilah, who is sarpanch of Parra of themselves resorting to such "cheap tactics" of planting the fake news to bargain for BJP tickets for themselves in Calangute and Siolim.
"It is a shame that Lobo is resorting to such cheap tactics to bargain for a BJP ticket for him and his wife. This fake news is planted by Lobo himself,” the recently appointed Calangute Block president of the Congress Benedict D'Souza said in a post.
Both Chidambaram and the AICC general secretary in-charge of Goa desk Gundu Rao met with the Calangute Congressmen on Friday.
Meanwhile, Lobo spent Friday in Mumbai but there was no authentic information of the purpose of his visit to the Metropolis.
In a tweet with a video of a tiger sighting on late Friday night, Lobo spoke of "storm of hectic political activities in Goa.
"Visited a Tiger Reserve in Andhari (sic). What a relaxing experience it was before the storm of hectic political activities here in Goa. Watching this undisputed, fearless and magnificent being has doubled up my energy to work for the people," Lobo's tweet said.
Lobo has over the last few days publicly aired dissenting political views which raised several eyebrows in the BJP camp.
Media reports recently also suggest he is looking to switch camps over the political ambitions of his sarpanch-wife Delilah and a larger Bardez and State-level political role for himself.
