Mickky quits NCP saying party has no political future

PANAJI

Claiming that the NCP and Congress Party have no political future, former minister Mickky Pacheco on Tuesday resigned from Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

This is the second time that Pacheco is quitting the NCP. In 2011, Pacheco had resigned as minister and quit the NCP to join Congress.

After being denied the ticket by Congress, he rejoined the NCP in January 2022.

While announcing his decision to resign from the party, Pacheco said he will work for the people and will make a comeback as a power centre in Salcete politics.

"I don't feel that the NCP and Congress have any future. In 2022 election, 11 Congress MLAs were elected and there is news that many of these MLAs are about to join BJP at any time,” said Pacheco.

“Eight MLAs almost joined the BJP. I have heard that two MLAs have changed their mind. However, 3 MLAs are ready to even resign and join BJP”, Pacheco added.

Pacheco claimed that people have lost faith in Congress.

“I don't think the Congress will ever come to power again,” said Pacheco.

Commenting on the present political scenario, Pacheco said MLAs are not available to people and are seen only in photos on Facebook.

Pacheco said he has a bigger political plan in taking a decision to quit the NCP.

"I have a bigger plan. I will control at least Salcete. I have already started working for people in Nuvem and Benaulim. For next 5 years, I will work for people and will show how work can be done without being in power,” he said.

Pacheco expressed confidence that he would be in the government after the next election.
