“Let’s first hear what Union Surface Transport Minister and BJP leader Nitin Gadkari has to offer to Goans”, remarked Goa Forward Party chief and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai on Sunday as the ruling BJP seemed to have attached huge importance to the Union Minister’s visit to the state on Tuesday.

When the media sought to know from the TCP Minister, a vocal critic of the auctioning of Goan mines fearing it would ensure the takeover of mining activities by outside players, what he and his party expects from the Union Minister during his visit to Goa, Sardesai shot back “Let us wait and see what the Union Minister has to offer for Goa on the mining imbroglio”.

The TCP Minister said the coalition partners have been allotted time by the Union Minister on Tuesday during his visit to Goa to discuss the mining issue and other matters related to the coalition government. “We have already spoken our mind on the mining issue as well as the functioning of the coalition government. Now, let the Union Minister come out with a solution to the crisis staring at the State in the wake of the shut down of mining operations”, Sardesai said.

Saying that the auction of mines will only bring in hordes of outsiders into Goa to take control over the State’s mineral resources, the TCP Minister, however, stressed on the need for optimum benefits from the mining sector to the state and its people.
