MARGAO
The Goa Mining Peoples Front (GMPF) on Thursday called on the Leader of the Opposition Babu Kavlekar with a plea to raise the issue of mining in the ensuing Budget session of the Goa Legislative Assembly.
The Leader of the Opposition assured the gathering of bringing this issue again on the floor of the House through ‘Calling Attention’ on the Budget day. He, however, demanded that the BJP must come clean on this issue, with absolutely no political or any other hidden agenda, and conclude immediately in the interest of the mining affected people.
“BJP’s incompetent leadership, both State and national, is fooling around with mining affected people with very self-centered approach and possibly keeping in mind the forthcoming Parliament elections and or long-term Assembly elections too,” thundered Kavlekar while addressing the large crowd gathered at his residence with an appeal cum memorandum requesting for continued unconditional support from Congress party to their demand of immediate resumption of mining activities and business in Goa.
They also thanked the Leader of Opposition and the Congress party for their support till date with whatsoever political agenda but only in the larger interest of the Goan people.
Kavlekar said the BJP is either incompetent or not serious in resolving the issue but probably dragging the issue with repeated twists and turns with some definite hidden agenda. He also wondered how the Prime Minister is available for many inaugurations, video conferencing with their party workers, etc, but couldn’t be able to meet the Goans who are anxiously expecting certain decisive steps from his government in the larger interest of State of Goa as well as Goan people.
A large number of people under the banner of GMPF urged the Leader of the Opposition to call for an ‘Calling Attention’ motion for discussion on the present status of the government proposal for the resumption of mining in Goa and the date by which a solution can be expected.
A memorandum was handed over to Kavlekar by the GMPF leadership referred to the news reports floating around which state that the Central government has refused to heed to the advise of the State government for resumption of mining in the State. “There have been various efforts made by the State government to resume mining, but the outcomes of the same are not clear which has led to a sense of disillusionment amongst the mining dependents. You and your party has also supported the resolution for mining resumption during the previous Assembly session and as such your support enabled unanimous adoption of the resolution,” the memorandum added.
