In what is being seen as a solution to drinking water requirements in Pissurlem and surrounding villages, the water supply department has proposed to utilise large amounts of water filled in mining pits in Sattari taluka.
Mining companies have been supplying water through tankers to Pissurlem and surrounding villages, but the water supply department is keen to offer another solution to address the water requirements in these villages.
Noting that a large amount of water is stored in mining pits, the water supply department has suggested that the utilisation of this water through a water purification project could benefit people residing many parts of Sattari taluka.
The department has submitted water project proposal to the government for its consideration and hopes that funds from the Goa Mineral Foundation can be utilised for this water project.
When contacted, water supply assistant engineer Mr Mahajan said the proposal to set up a water supply project in the mining area, which can overcome drinking water problems in the areas of Pissurlem, Honda and nearby areas, has been submitted to the government.
“Funds available with Goa Mineral Foundation can be used for this project which will address the problem in the area,” said Mahajan.
Pissurlem Sarpanch Jayashree Parab said the government could consider this project, since drinking water can be made available to Pissurlem and other villages.
