Tourism Minister Rohan Khuante said that five Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) have registered with the Tourism Department even as show-cause notices have been issued to those who failed to register.
“Five online travel agencies “ Makemytrip, Air BnB, Ekostay LLP, bookings.com and Ibibo “ have registered with us. We have sent notices to such online platforms to comply with the rules and regulations or face action,” Khaunte said.
In a written reply to a starred question, he said the tourism department periodically browses the online service provider to find out unregistered activities.
“Show cause notices have been issued to 317 online service providers and a fine of Rs 10.75 lakh has been imposed against them for carrying out tourism activities without registering,” he said.
For the current fiscal (2022-23), the tourism department booked 41 cases against travel agencies and imposed a fine of Rs 4.62 lakh for carrying out unregistered tourism activity.
Similarly, 59 cases were booked against water sports operators and a fine of Rs 6.68 lakh was imposed on them and 67 cases were booked against hotels and a fine of Rs 10.88 lakh has been imposed.
