MARGAO
A group of Muslims on Saturday launched a Niz Goemkar Muslims Association headed by Furkhan Shah to work for the betterment of the community.
In his address, industrialist Nitin Kuncolienkar said it is time that people work together to make a new Goa, one which is religion-neutral and does not divide people. “We have to build a Goa which helps everybody to grow, which looks after everybody’s safety. Don’t fall prey to certain groups which try to dominate,” he said.
Appreciating the initiative of forming the Niz Goemkar Muslims Association, Kuncolienkar said he and his family had a great bonding with the minority community since his childhood days in Quepem.
In his address, city-based dentist Dr Hubert Gomes explained how he experienced love since childhood from a Muslim family that was staying in a rented place. Dr Gomes underlined the need to spread love in the society for peace and progress.
Noted historian, Dr Prajal Sakhardande, gave a brief insight into the Muslim community’s role in Goa during the pre-liberation days.
