MARGAO
Margao fire brigade rushed to the Comba railway crossing on Tuesday following a call that a garbage dump has been set on fire by miscreants
While the fire personnel extinguished the fire within minutes, what has brought to light is that miscreants regularly set the waste on fire, not only causing pollution but a nuisance to the motorists.
The situation also brought to the fore the contentious issue of waste burning, banned by the National Green Tribunal.
A fire personnel told The Goan this is not the first time that the Margao fire brigade has rushed to the Comba railway crossing to attend to the fire emergency.
“Every time, we get a call that the waste is engulfed by fire, we rush to the site only to realise that miscreants has set the waste dump on fire.
"There may be occasions when our presence may be required to attend to a calamity and attending such calls may cause delay”, a fire personnel said, while making a plea to the citizens not to set waste on fire.
