MLA Venzy Viegas along with district authorities inspected the Benaulim coast to plan for Cyclone Alert Exercise as part of Disaster Management.
The MLA along with local fishermen and residents inspected the coast with South Goa Additional Collector, Sanjit Rodrigues, IAS and deputy Collector, Jyoti Kumari, IAS in a bid to put in place a system to handle a disaster in times of cyclones.
Fire Officer Gill D’Souza, Fisheries Superintendent Chandresh Haldankar, Deputy Director, Fisheries, Chandrakant Velip and Drishti training manager Amitava Maity also participated in the exercise.
All these officials were part of the joint inspection at Benaulim beach organised by local MLA Venzy to discuss the Cyclone Alert Exercise as part of Disaster Management.
“This is a unique initiative to train the fishermen community as to how to react & save their canoes in case of the Cyclone Siren and how to take their equipment to a cyclone shelter”, Venzy said.
In this respect, the authorities will hold a drill in the coming days as part of the cyclone alert exercise.
Local fishermen Pele, Alex and others were present during the inspection.
