The deteriorating condition of two vital road stretches in Bardez taluka—NH-66 from Guirim Junction to Atal Setu in Porvorim and the Saligao Circle to Pilerne Industrial Estate road – came under sharp focus in the Goa Legislative Assembly on Monday, with calls for urgent government intervention.
Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) MLA Viresh Borkar described the roads as dangerous and unsafe for daily commuters.
He pointed out that the newly carpeted NH-66 stretch had already developed multiple potholes due to the monsoon, posing a serious threat to motorists.
“The Saligao–Pilerne road has remained in a perilous state despite repeated patchwork. Accidents continue to occur, and immediate repairs are necessary before a tragedy strikes,” Borkar warned.
He also demanded an inquiry into the quality of the roadworks and accountability for the poor condition of the roads so soon after resurfacing.
Responding to the concerns, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who also holds the Public Works Department (PWD) portfolio, assured the House that the matter would be looked into.
He said the contractor concerned would be directed to carry out the required repairs without delay.
The Goan has repeatedly reported on the worsening condition of these roads and the daily hardship faced by commuters and school children, particularly along the Saligao–Pilerne stretch.
